Sustainable Tourism
There are many threats to environment for the Indus River and the land around it. The Indus River's most urgent environmental problems include climate change, water scarcity, fishing, and water pollution. There are also even dams proposed to be built on this river. The Indus River is suffering greatly from climate change, especially since it is from glaciers, so it is evaporating. Water is also taken from the river very often for uses such as agriculture which is leading to water scarcity. Fishing and water pollution are also affecting the biodiversity of the Indus River, species such as the Indus River Dolphin, one of the few fresh water dolphin species, are being killed. Indus River Dolphins are being affected by fishing because they can sometimes get caught in the fishing nets and so they will die. The Indus River also supports many other species found nowhere else in the world.
The tours provided by the Indus River Tourism Company will be an environmentally friendly. We will have boats with wind turbines to harness energy when we are in the mountains, and when we are sailing by the Punjab Plains, we will use solar panels on the boats. This style of boat will reduce the amount of water pollution that the boat would have created if it were to only use fuel. On the boat, there will also be meetings to educate people about the threats that the Indus River is facing. We may then stop at the local fisheries and give a presentation to teach them about the environmental problems as well. We will eat mostly local food which reduces water pollution. Along the way, the Indus River Tourism Company will always stop and rescue Indus River Dolphins if they are trapped.
